What is the Nicklaus Children’s Carlin Family Prom?
The Nicklaus Children’s Carlin Family Prom is a magical evening for your teen to celebrate with other teens.This event is free of charge and will be an unforgettable experience. Due to our limited space, registration closes soon. Please register as soon as you receive your invitation if you are interested in participating. Receiving an invitation does not guarantee your participation in this event.
Who goes to Prom?
Your teen is invited to the Carlin Prom as a member of our Nicklaus Children's patient family! Carlin Prom is a wonderful event limited to our teen patients, chosen by our healthcare professionals to be invited.
What makes Prom different?
Carlin Prom is a safe space for teens like yours to enjoy this rite of passage. In addition to the fun activities, teens will be escorted throughout the evening by medical professionals to manage any special needs. We recommend that parents complete the medical needs questionnaire in full during registration so our healthcare professionals can prepare in advance.
What should my teen wear?
We will help your teen find just the right outfit. Suit and dress shopping will be available at Macy’s in Westland Mall by appointment only.
How do I book my shopping appointment?
You can select your appointment date and time during the online registration. We will send a calendar invitation with the date and time assigned for your appointment, along with instructions. Please review your appointment details and reach out if you have any questions.
Do I have to pay for my teen’s outfit?
The teen’s outfit is at no cost to you. Shopping appointments are limited to the invited teen patient only. Due to our limited funds, we are unable to provide an outfit for your teen’s guest.
Can my teen bring a date?
Yes, the invitation is for your teen and one guest. The guest should be around your teen's age and can be a friend, boyfriend or girlfriend, or younger family member.
What outfit should my teen’s guest wear?
Your teen’s guest should wear a formal or semi-formal outfit. An elegant dress or dress pants with a long-sleeved shirt and tie is recommended.
What will my teen do at Prom?
Teens will have a blast with their guests and friends. They will enjoy a night of dancing, dinner, dessert, a photo booth, and many fun surprises. The main ballroom is a space free of parents and guardians, but you will have the opportunity to walk your child to prom and take a memorable picture, which will be printed at the end of the evening and provided to you as a keepsake.
What will parents do at Prom?
We will host a free reception for two parents or guardians during Carlin Prom. It will include dinner, music, and a
live-stream video of the Prom. The parent reception is adjacent to the main prom area and has direct access to the space for any needs. Space is limited, so we can only accommodate two family members per Prom teen patient at this event. Please reach out to our team for questions about younger siblings.
What outfit should the parents wear?
Parents should wear a formal or semi-formal outfit. An elegant dress and dress pants, with a long-sleeved shirt and tie, is recommended.
How do I book my teen’s hair and makeup appointments?
During registration, you will be able to select your preferred teen’s hair and makeup appointments. We will offer
appointments with stylists and makeup artists to our teens who have been patients at our hospital at no additional cost. Appointments are limited and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. We will send a calendar invitation with the date and time assigned for your appointment, along with instructions for follow-up. Please review your appointment details and reach out if you have any questions.
How do teens get ready for Prom?
On the day of the event, we will provide a space for patients to wait for their appointment and to change into their formal attire afterward at the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables on the second floor. Please make sure to keep your belongings with you and avoid leaving anything in the second-floor area before attending the prom.
