Patient of the Month: Wyatt

November 2024

During a routine prenatal appointment, Wyatt’s mom, Ilsa Marie, learned her baby boy had a rare lung disorder. For the remainder of her pregnancy, both Ilsa Marie and her unborn son received treatment in their home country of Saint Lucia ensuring that after his birth, Wyatt would be able to receive treatment for the abnormal mass on his lung.

Known as congenital pulmonary airway malformation (CPAM), this disease can lead to further complications if left untreated and can prevent proper development of the lungs. After Wyatt was born, the family sought treatment at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to ensure he received the required specialized surgical treatment to survive.

Thanks to your support, Nicklaus Children’s lifesaving work extends beyond our community. Wyatt’s surgery was a success, and he recently celebrated his first birthday. Throughout the next few years, he will continue to be monitored by Nicklaus Children’s medical team to ensure proper development of his lungs.
