Patient of the Month: Michael C.

May 2021

Michael C. is a very active athlete who enjoys competitive windsurfing, surfing, basketball, working out, yoga and meditation. Last year, he began feeling lethargic and tired, so his mother took him to the doctor's office for testing. She thought it might have been COVID-19. Michael C. was referred to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of leukemia that affects his liver and spleen. He says it was the support of his family and friends that got him through the physical and mental health fight of his life. This month, as we honor Mental Health Awareness Month, we bring you his heart-wrenching and inspirational story.
