Patient of the Month: Kaylee and Family

October 2023

This isn’t one patient’s story. This is the story of how a family overcame cancer – not once, not twice, but three times.

All three of Ketty’s children needed medical treatment within a span of a year. This brave mom knew there would be no better place to care for her kids than Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Last year, Kaylee was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare type of cancer that occurs in the bones or soft tissue around the bones. This news ended her college softball career, and she is being treated by Dr. Guillermo De Angulo at Nicklaus Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Institute. While undergoing treatment, her two brothers also fought their own medical battles. Keanu was diagnosed with stage 3 Burkitts Lymphoma and Kassem was diagnosed with a skin tumor.
