Patient of the Month: Alexis

June 2014

Alexis has suffered more fractures in her short life of life than what the average person will in their entire lifetime. This is because Alexis has a very rare disease called osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as "brittle bone disease." Despite her condition, Alexis maintains the attitude of a healthy, happy child. There are times where she's not able to walk, so she finds others ways to move around. Much of her progress is due to the care she's received at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, one of few hospitals capable of treating Alexis' condition.
