Patients at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital will have more exciting hospital stays, thanks to a generous donation from the Nicolas Diaz Foundation! Johanna and Carlos Diaz created the Nicolas Diaz Foundation in honor of their little boy, Nick, who passed away three years ago. Their mission is to raise awareness for the need of blood donations and to help patients have a less painful and difficult time during their treatment. Johanna and Carlos came to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital with 40 Nintendo Wii consoles to fulfill a promise they made to Nick.
Nick loved to play video games and smiled all the time, always lighting up the room. In his honor, the 40 Nintendo Wii consoles were donated to the Hematology/Oncology Unit, so more kids who are touched by cancer can smile as Nick used to. Nick’s avatar was programmed on each of the consoles, so that every child can “play” with him. Our patients and families enjoy using the Wiis and virtually playing with other patients without having to leave the comfort of their room. We are so thankful to the Diaz family for their unwavering support and generosity despite
their loss. They are truly an inspiration as they continue to serve our community!
