"Wear The Bear, Show You Care" Campaign Raises $150,000 for Nicklaus Children's COVID-19 Relief Efforts

Jack and Barbara Nicklaus and the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation raised $150,000 for COVID-19 relief efforts at Nicklaus Children's as part of their Father's Day campaign called “Wear the Bear. Show You Care.”

Due to its remarkable success, the campaign has been extended to continue raising funds for the Nicklaus Children's COVID-19 Relief Fund, including personal protective equipment (PPE) and other needs for patients and frontline healthcare workers.

For every $100 you donate, the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation will match your donation, sending $200 to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. As a gesture of heartfelt thanks, you will receive the special hat.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is currently spending approximately $20,000 a week to provide PPE for the staff. This expense is expected to increase as the hospital implements a universal mask policy to protect patients, workers, and visitors. Funding from the “Wear the Bear. Show You Care.” hat will help the hospital to continue its critical work, while safeguarding patients, their families, and health care workers.

This pandemic has reminded us of the things we hold dear, our families and our health,” said Barbara Nicklaus, founder and chair of the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. “As the threat continues, we want to make sure the professionals who risk their health to care for us have the protective equipment they need to stay safe. We have to pull together to get through this challenge.

As more states, including Florida, report record-setting daily numbers of COVID-19 cases, the “first family of golf” and their Foundation have renewed their commitment to help protect health care workers, while sharing a message of hope and healing.

The Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation and their headwear partners at AHEAD USA created a limited-edition hat embroidered with the iconic Golden Bear wearing a protective face mask and the words “Wear the Bear. Show You Care.” The popular hat is part of an initiative to fund the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other needs for frontline healthcare workers.
