Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Foundation recognized Tim Anagnost at this year’s Donor Next Door event on February 1st, hosted annually by Philanthropy Miami.
Anagnost is a devoted supporter of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and an advocate for the children and families of South Florida and beyond. After his own experience at Nicklaus Children’s as a young boy diagnosed with polio, he knows what it’s like to endure a health challenge at a young age. Decades later, Anagnost dedicated his philanthropic giving to the doctors and nurses who showed him and his family remarkable care and compassion on his journey to health.
In 1951, Anagnost was 7 years old when he was admitted to Nicklaus Children’s to be treated for polio. In that era, Nicklaus Children’s was a polio hospital built to treat the youngest patients for weeks and months at a time. After a six-week stay, the doctors and nurses helped cure his polio and he went on to live a healthy, fulfilled life.
Anagnost’s memories of the exceptional health care shown to him decades earlier, as well as the devotion of his parents George and Georgia, and brother James Captain, is truly moving. As a result, Anagnost wanted to pay it forward with a substantial planned gift from his estate plan to help ensure more children always have access to the best possible care. He’s also made an additional gift to support the Nicklaus Children’s Patient Assistance Fund.
Anagnost has been a lifelong member of the Coral Gables community, a University of Miami Hurricane, attorney and a supporter of the local performing and cultural arts. Today, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital bears a naming in his honor inside the Neurology/Neurosurgery Unit as a testament to his commitment to ensuring the well-being of future generations.
