Nicklaus Children's Hospital Acquires Mamava Lactation Pods for Breastfeeding Parents

Published on: 08/10/2022

Nicklaus Children's Hospital has acquired three Mamava lactation pods. The pods, now in use at locations throughout the hospital campus, provide breastfeeding mothers with a private, clean, and comfortable space to pump or nurse their babies.

Mamava pods are powered by a smart technology system that enables easy location sharing, autonomous access, and remote monitoring through use of the free Mamava app available for iOS and Android. Designed specifically for pumping and breastfeeding, these pods feature easy-to-clean surfaces, comfortable benches and a locking door.

“We are excited to bring Mamava pods to Nicklaus Children's,” said Shannon Odell, the hospital's vice president and chief nursing officer. “Ensuring that families have amenities to fit their needs while at our facilities is of utmost importance and part of our goal of always providing amazing patient care. We are grateful to our generous employees who contributed funds to acquire the pods, ensuring we offer parents a quiet, clean and private space to breastfeed their children or pump.”

The pods were funded through iGIVE, the employee-giving fund of Nicklaus Children's Health System.

The pod's unique shape serves as a celebratory billboard broadcasting that breastfeeding is happening all around and that breastfeeding parents need support and infrastructure to continue.
