In 1948, Gladys Stewart came to the United States from Cuba with the hopes of a new life. Throughout her life, she always felt strongly about giving back and supporting the children of our community, particularly those less fortunate. After her husband Frederick passed away, she visited what was then Miami Children’s Hospital. She was so moved by the compassionate care given to underserved children in need of medical help that she decided to leave a legacy so that other children could also be helped for years to come.
Mrs. Stewart would be incredibly proud and moved to know that because of her generosity our Pediatric Care Center was named The Gladys M. & Frederick Stewart Pediatric Care Center to honor her legacy and the difference she will make in the lives of children for years to come.
“My cousin, Gladys Stewart, never had children of her own but had a deep desire to help disadvantaged children receive medical care. Through this gift from her estate, she will be providing comprehensive care to deserving children at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. I know that she would feel great satisfaction in seeing her wish fulfilled,” said Mrs. Josefina Clary, cousin and executor of Mrs. Stewart’s estate.
The Gladys M. & Frederick Stewart Pediatric Care Center offers the finest in pediatric primary care with five board-certified physicians, who work in collaboration with pediatric residents and nurses with special training and experience providing comprehensive pediatric medical care from infancy to 21 years of age.
Mrs. Stewart, who made several modest gifts during her lifetime to the cause, lived her life by her principals and in her will left a bequest of $1.25 million to help deserving children at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Her generosity will impact the lives of children and families for years to come.
