6th Annual MCHF5K a Success Thanks to Supporters Like You!

Published on: 09/27/2016

An enthusiastic crowd of nearly 4,500 participants including runners, walkers, spectators and families from around South Florida came out to join the Citrix 6th Annual Miami Children’s Health Foundation 5K Run/Walk Presented by Sabadell United Bank (MCHF5K). This year, we also counted on the support of some our Celebrity Ambassadors, Ximena Duque and Erick Cuesta, who created their own teams. Thanks to them and the community coming together for the patients and families of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s, the MCHF5K was a great success! Since its inception, the MCHF5K has raised nearly $2.5 million, benefiting Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.

Before the start of the race, this year’s MCHF5K hero, 17-year-old cancer survivor Raquel, inspired participants and motivated the crowd to run for children like her. Raquel participated with her team “Oliver Forever Strong.” Raquel is in remission after receiving treatment at Nicklaus Children’s for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer.

The top male finisher was Joshua Estrada with a winning time of 16.22, and Ana Cadreche was the top female finisher at 22.54.This year’s top ‘FUN’raising team was Nico’s Promise, who raised a total of $13,434, and the top fundraising individual was Carolina Exposito, who raised a total of $4,540.

The race began at Coral Gables City Hall and included a Vendor Village, Kids Fun Zone and Kids Fun Run. Several local television personalities also joined the cause, including Univision morning anchor, Eileen Cardet, WSVN7 morning anchor Diana Diaz, Univision Radio personality Alberto Sardiñas, and actress and model, Maripily Rivera, among others. Beatriz Canals, Emmy-nominated journalist, and a longtime supporter of MCH Foundation, served as Master of Ceremonies.
