2022 Annual Report

Published on: 05/19/2023

Without a doubt, 2022 was a banner year for Nicklaus Children’s as we soared to new heights in fulfilling our commitment to the children and families of South Florida and beyond. We cannot thank you enough for helping make that possible. The many successes include exceeding an ambitious 2022 fundraising goal, thanks in large part to the generosity of Citadel Founder and CEO Ken Griffin, who made a remarkable $25 million donation to fund our new state-of-the-art surgical tower and the clinical excellence of our specialty institutes. As we continue our steadfast commitment to being your child matters most, Nicklaus Children’s will be ready to open the five-story, 127,000-square-foot Kenneth C. Griffin Surgical Tower next year. It will house upgraded and expansive operating suites with all the latest technologies to support patient care.

In a challenging year for many health systems and children’s hospitals, Nicklaus Children’s found ways to grow stronger, stay at the forefront of a changing world, provide hope and inspiration to families everywhere, and even expand. We have many more successes to celebrate, as you will read in our 2022 Report to the Community, including:

  • Generous supporters like you helped us fund $1 million in life-saving care through the Patient Assistance Fund for 31 patients from the U.S. and 14 countries who, otherwise, would have gone without the care they desperately needed.
  • Nicklaus Children’s Hospital became the exclusive, trusted member hospital in five more Florida counties as part of the national nonprofit organization, Children’s Miracle Network. As of 2023, Nicklaus Children’s now serves all of South Florida, including Palm Beach and the Treasure Coast.
Our year of soaring success would not have been possible without our Nicklaus Children’s family, including our donors and friends whose support helps us lead in the delivery of pediatric care nationwide.
