In 2006, Priscilla was a middle school student who was touched by the passing of a young boy, Keimonte, who she and her mother met through a Holiday Angel event. Priscilla decided to help other children by starting a grassroots organization called Knots of Hope. The organization's goals are to spread smiles and hope through beading bracelets with the patients and their families and bring awareness to cancer, diabetes and mental health. Priscilla enlisted the help of a group of loyal friends and community volunteers equally committed to giving back. They brought smiles to patients at Nicklaus Children's Hospital - one bracelet at a time.
Today, 15 years later, Knots of Hope has raised nearly $100,000 for Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Those funds have benefited various areas of the hospital, including patient family housing, COVID-19 relief, Cancer Survivorship Celebrations, the Sickle Cell/Hemoglobinopathies Care Program, UOTS Camp, the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
The group has been recognized for their community work with two Proclamations from Miami-Dade County Office of Mayor and Board of Commissioners and the City of Doral. Knots of Hope Day is officially October 2nd.
