In Memory of Sanjiv Bhatia, MD

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital suffered a great loss on May 24, 2018, when Dr. Sanjiv Bhatia, a highly revered and esteemed pediatric neurosurgeon, passed away unexpectedly. He served as the Chief of the Department of Surgery and the Residency and Fellowship Educational Director for the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for many years. Dr. Bhatia dedicated his life to healing children and giving them the best chance at healthy futures. He was a brilliant neurosurgeon, a passionate teacher, and a steadfast friend. His impact on our Institution and the community was significant, and his absence has left a huge hole in the hearts of the staff, as well as the families and children who were fortunate enough to have known him. This great loss has not only impacted those who he worked with and treated at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, but also his colleagues and friends around the world who benefited from his knowledge and looked to him for his guidance and expertise.

To honor Dr. Bhatia’s memory and his impact on the Department of Neurosurgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, we seek to establish the Sanjiv Bhatia, MD, Endowed Chair in Neurosurgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. The chair will serve as a meaningful tribute to the special person that he was. Income from the fund will support, in perpetuity, a pediatric neurosurgeon of the highest caliber, contributing to the program’s continuing excellence and ensuring Dr. Bhatia’s legacy.
