After 36 years at Nicklaus Children’s, Carolyn Domina, Director of the Fetal Care Center, has announced her retirement. Carolyn began her nursing career with Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in 1985 as a staff nurse in the operating room. She worked her way up to administrative director of Surgical Services, and along that journey, helped shape the department to what it is today. In 2015, she led the team that would safely move our patients into the Advanced Pediatric Care Pavilion once it opened – a move that was completed in six hours and included 137 patients. This major feat, critical to patient care and safety, would not have been possible without her leadership and guidance. In 2017, the Fetal Care Center opened under her leadership and, in 2019, she stepped in as interim chief nursing officer until 2020.
Throughout her career, Carolyn has been an inspirational leader to many nurses and professionals across the organization, gracefully embracing new projects and responsibilities and led teams to success. She has never turned down an opportunity to leave things better and support the hospital’s mission. Her loyalty and dedication to Nicklaus Children’s are truly exemplary. Carolyn has dedicated her life to serving the children and families of South Florida and we are grateful for her contributions.
Please join us in congratulating Carolyn on her many accomplishments at Nicklaus Children’s with your gift today to the Carolyn Domina Nursing Advancement Fund. Funds raised will support scholarly activities that encourage and advance the art and science of nursing, with a focus on supporting nursing personnel within surgical services.
